Updated Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Unemployment Figures | released July 01, 2020 : Official unemployment figures for the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton economy were updated today. Numbers for April have been finalized and preliminary figures for May have now been made available. April The unemployment rate increased to 17.6% in April. 32,100 positions were lost, and 10,700 workers left the labor force causing the unemployment rate increase. Nonfarm payrolls fell by 28,300. Labor categories with significant losses include Manufacturing falling by 12,200 positions, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities falling by 2,700 positions, Professional and Business Services falling by 1,500 positions, Education and Health Services falling by 2,500 positions, Leisure and Hospitality falling by 7,200 positions, and Other Services falling by 1,000 positions. May (preliminary) The unemployment rate fell to 15.0% in May. 6,300 positions were added, with only 2,600 workers entering the labor force causing the unemployment rate decrease. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 4,600. The only individual sector with a significant increase in employment was Manufacturing adding 3,700 positions.
