Rental Agency asking for brokerage fee from potential tenant : I was at an open house over the weekend in the Inner Richmond area and really liked the apartment. I submitted an application and the rental agency (Kenney Everest) called me back today and mentioned that I need to pay a security deposit of 1.5 months and also a brokerage fee of $1000 if I decide to rent the apartment. I mentioned that I didn't really hire them for anything and questioned why I need to pay them a brokerage fee. The lady on the phone said the brokerage fee is paid partly by the owner and partly by the tenant. This seems ridiculous to me. Has anybody else faced this before? How did you handle it? - Full Article
