How long do you have to live in Maine to be considered a "Mainer"? : Maybe you guys can help me out with this. My parents were both born and raised in Maine. My dad worked for a large insurance company as an auditor for corporate insurance, so we moved quite a bit when I was young. I was born in Mass (only lived there for the first 6 months of my life), and have lived in Canada, Indiana (two different parts), Illinois (two different parts), and have now lived in Maine for about 20 years, roughly half of my life. I find it interesting, because when I have discussions about things like hunting, fishing, winters, or pretty much anything else that Maine natives are passionate about (especially politics lately), the go to response I seem to get when someone disagrees with me is that I'm "from away", so I just don't get it. So, exactly how long does one have to be a resident of this beautiful state to actually become a "Mainer"? submitted by /u/N0_R0B0 [link] [comments] - Full Article
