Has anyone else struggled with finding employment in San Diego? : I've been job searching for about 8 months now. I've landed 3 interviews and have had no luck getting an offer. I've sent over 60 applications, tried connecting with people on LinkedIn and writing to them personally, utilized my friend's network and former colleagues, and usually try to speak with someone on the phone if I am applying to a new company where I don't have a direct reference. I've also been in contact with about 5 different recruiting agencies, none of whom have been sending me much. I've been looking for a job in the research field, trying to get started in clinical research and project assistant positions. I've applied to positions where I met only 80% of requirements, jobs that I have been perfectly qualified for, and jobs that I have been overqualified for. Most of my background is in lab management and research administration. I've also asked for feedback on my resume and I haven't heard anything negative that would indicate my resume is being discarded. Has anyone had this much trouble finding a job in SD? Is there something different about the hiring practices here? I don't remember job searching being this difficult when I first finished my undergrad degree. Am I missing something? Do people in SD take a different approach to hiring or job-seeking? Any insight would be very much appreciated I feel really hopeless at the moment and I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. - Full Article
